| Few angling experiences rival the excitement of stalking tarpon on
clear, shallow flats. Located 45 minutes by boat from El Pescador (and the brand new El Pescador Villas)
are some of the most productive year-round tarpon flats in the world. Tarpon in the 20 - 100 pound range can be found in 3-5 feet of water virtually year round. When conditions are right you might see hundreds of tarpon and jump several in a day. There are times, however, when the water is too rough to reach the tarpon flats in El Pescador's small skiff-style boats. Under such conditions there is productive fishing for bonefish, permit, barracuda, shark, snapper and jacks on protected flats closer to the lodge, and along the mangrove edges in the lee of the wind. |
|
|
Bonefish average 1-3 pounds, up to 5-6 pounds; Jack crevalle and
permit up to 20 pounds are frequently sighted in schools. Barracuda and shark of all sizes abound. Scrappy ladyfish
over 4 pounds can be taken in nearby lagoons on a fly. Snook are also available, but not abundant. To the East, El Pescador is bounded by the Great Barrier Reef of Belize, making snorkeling and diving reason enough to vacation here. |
| Reef fishermen can expect to catch (in season) sailfish, dolphin, tuna, king mackerel, grouper, snapper, big-eyed jacks, wahoo and barracuda. |
|
There are also several larger (38-52 foot) boats for charter for
those who would like to go further offshore. The atmosphere at El Pescador is casual. Very good seafood and native dishes are served in a nicely appointed dinning room. Lodge manager, Ali Gentry Flota, and her staff are very attentive and efficient. |

An attractive white sand beach stretches for miles in front of the hotel. Swimming off the El Pescador dock is preferable to wading because of the amount of seaweed that gets washed ashore. Also located on the premises is a fresh water swimming pool. There is limited spin and fly fishing gear, scuba tanks and air for rent. Divers usually bring their own masks, fins, snorkel, B.C. and regulator. |
| San Pedro, a small Belizean village, comprised of several hotels and bars, is 10 minutes away by boat. One day and over night sightseeing trips to ancient Mayan ruins located on main land Belize can be arranged, as well as the variety of other non-fishing activities described in the attached pages. |
