fishing lodge located on Ambergris Caye). . Machaca Hill offers both flats and river fishing but is best known for its permit fishery - the healthiest in the world. There are also seasonal Tarpon, Bonefish out on the reef, and Snook in the rivers and estuaries. In addition to world class fishing, the Nature Preserve at Machaca Hill is host to numerous eco-adventures including nature trails, a river and two streams, foothills and mountains, abundant birds, colorful butterflies and exotic wildlife, oldgrowth Rain forest, a Mayan burial site and indigenous farming for citrus, vegetables and tropical flowers. |

Toledo District in southern Belize. The lodge is 1 hour by air from Belize City (8 flights daily) and five miles
by road north of Punta Gorda Town. The Resort encompasses 470 acres nestled in coastal mountains and Rain forest along 1.5 miles of the Rio Grande. The river offers swift and easy access to the Flats and Cayes of the Caribbean Sea 20 minutes downstream. In addition there are numerous freshwater lagoons and rivers including
Golden Stream, Deep River, Temash and Moho, all just a short boat ride away. The main lodge is positioned at the summit of "Big Hill" for which the original farm was named. It features a reception area, restaurant, bar with pool table, computer with internet access, reading room, fly shop, gift shop, conference room and sprawling verandahs on 2 levels. The panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and Rain forest canopy are awe-inspiring. | Machaca Hill Lodge is host to one of the world's most diverse fisheries
for light tackle angling in both salt and fresh water. Whether Fly or Spin fishing is your game, the availability of permit, tarpon, snook and bonefish make Southern Belize one of few locations in the world that offers a legitimate GRAND SLAM opportunity all 12 months of the year. In addition to the big-4, Machaca Hill offers an opportunity for several additional saltwater species including barracuda, jack cravelle, lady fish, and snapper. |

| The Machaca Hill guides are all from the Southern shores of Belize.
All of them have excellent knowledge of the surrounding waters. They have been quick to learn the techniques of
shallow water sport fishing. They have formed a tour guide association in Punta Gorda and have been instrumental
in protecting their natural resources. The Port of Honduras Marine Reserve is the largest reserve in Belize and
the guides assist Wardens in the monitoring and policing of the area. Several of the guides have been mentioned in numerous angling publications since the former El Pescador Punta Gorda began operations in 2002 and many have been fly fishing for years. In addition to their experience on the water, their skills have been upgraded by numerous workshops and training sessions. Machaca Hill provides a 4-person Tram. This open-air tram transports guests from the main |

| Lodge down Big Hill, to the Rio Grande River below. You will be transported through the rain forest with the canopy above. On the way, you may see tropical birds such as toucans or parrots as well as resident troop of howler monkeys. At the bottom of the ride your guide will be awaiting you for a exciting day of fishing. |

| The Toledo District of Belize is blessed with more shallow water fishing opportunities than most coastal areas. These areas consist of inshore cayes and small islands surrounded by mangroves, which offer some protection in the wind, coral flats that pop up out of Deep Blue water frequented by large ocean permit and mangrove lined rivers that hold tarpon and snook. Most of the flats are firm bottomed and easy wading. | |
The Port of Honduras Marine Reserve and Snake cayes, consisting of 130 plus cayes, rivers, lagoons and coastal mangroves, will provide almost unlimited angling opportunities. The reserve is located just north of Punta Gorda Town, a short boat ride from Machaca Hill Lodge. The Barrier Reef and Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve approximately 35 miles east of Punta Gorda (1 hour by boat) also offer world class diving and good numbers of bonefish. The Maya Mountain's eastern watershed, which extends from the Stann Creek District south through the Toledo District, provides an abundance of fresh water and literally hundreds of rivers and streams to which Machaca Hill has access. Monkey River, Deep River, Payne's Creek, Golden Stream, Boden Creek, Moho River, The Temash and bordering Guatemala in the South is the Sarstoon, all have resident or migratory populations of tarpon and snook. |
|
| Freshwater landlocked Tarpon are found in the inner lagoons of the
Ycacos near Punta Negra as well. The fishery of Toledo is without question best known for its prolific Permit fishery; however, Snook and Tarpon are an everyday possibility. |
